There was recently a kerfuffle around a HN post on journaling getting negative points. While I have no opinion on the HN points system, the linked article, How and why I journal, looks interesting. The author keeps a (semi-public) family journal. Purposes are like a private diary, but also a bit of a common family memory and a news bulletin. I have an occasional diary. My method is to write things down on a piece of paper (I think better with a pen in hand, and like to do 2D stuff with indents &c.), take a photo with my phone, and throw away the paper. The jottings then serve to contextualize photos in the “x years ago” selections Immich shows me, and interesting bits end up remembered. As this is private, and “productivity” is psychologically difficult to avoid these days, there are also elements of BuJo and of a GTD inbox in those notes.
